This lower handle assembly, part 2208590000, is a replacement for Dirt Devil and Royal upright vacuums in the 670/1020/7710 handle lineup. It is the section that links the vacuum's body to its upper handle, carrying the mechanical connection between the two.
The joint at the base of the handle takes the brunt of pushing, pulling, and turning the machine, and it is the first place the handle usually cracks or works loose. Once it does, the machine feels loose or wobbly right where you steer it, and the play tends to work its way into the mounting points over time rather than staying contained.
