This lock nut (Part #H526B) is a replacement nut that secures a critical threaded connection inside the Rainbow vacuum. It fits the Rainbow/Rexair D3, D4, and D4SE, and it is designed to hold its grip where an ordinary nut would loosen.
Vibration from the running motor works standard nuts loose over time, which can let the connection they hold drift or separate. This lock nut resists that vibration and stays put, keeping the threaded joint tight through normal operation.
