This black fan housing with pilot joint, Oreck part 430001440, is two things in one moulding: the shell that encloses the fan, and the pivot the handle turns on. That combination is why a knock hard enough to crack the housing tends to affect both suction and the way the machine steers.
A cracked housing leaks air on the pressure side of the fan, so the nozzle never sees full airflow no matter how clean the bag and filters are. You may also hear the machine change note, going hollower and rougher than the sound you are used to. At the pilot joint, wear shows as a handle that has gone sloppy in the recline.
It fits the Oreck UK30300, UK30300COM and UK30300PC. Unplug the vacuum before opening the housing, because the fan sits directly behind it.
