The fan duct cover closes the housing over the fan chamber, and this replacement comes with its seal, part D123-3814. It is the cover for the Fuller Brush FB-SM, and it also fits the Carpet Pro CP-ULW and ZM-400, the Riccar R10E, RSL1A, RSL1AC, RSL2, RSL3, RSL3C, RSL4 and RSL5C, and the Simplicity F3100, F3300C, F3400, F3500, F3500C, F3600, F3700, F3700C and S10W.
Everything downstream of the fan depends on that cover sealing. Once the seal hardens or the cover cracks, usually from being levered off during a belt change, air short-circuits straight into the fan chamber instead of coming up through the nozzle. Pickup at the carpet drops off while the motor keeps sounding strong.
Because the seal is included, the joint reseals properly rather than being re-used.
