The pre-motor filter in a Hoover U5180 upright only does its job if it is held square in front of the motor intake, and this frame, part 93001731, is what holds it. It fits the U5180900 and U5180910, U5182900, U5183900, U5185900, and the UH70005B, UH70060 and UH70070.
The frame is thin plastic, handled at every filter change, and it warps and cracks around the tabs. A frame that no longer sits flat leaves a gap at one edge, and air takes that gap in preference to the filter. The tell is a filter that stays suspiciously clean while fine dust builds up inside the motor housing - a slow and expensive way to lose a motor.
Fit a fresh filter at the same time, and check the frame sits flush all round before the cover goes back on.
