The upper cord hook on a Fuller Brush HD series upright swings to release the cord, and a spring is what returns it and holds it closed. Part B430-0200 is that spring. Besides the FBHD1, FBHD1T, FBPHD2 and FBPHD2T, it is listed for the Fuller Brush FB-SM, the Carpet Pro CP-ULW and ZM-400, the Maytag M500, M700 and M1200, and the Riccar and Simplicity R10P and R10S.
When the spring tires or snaps, the hook flops loose. The cord will not stay wrapped, it unwinds itself in the closet and pays out under the wheels while you work, which is how cords get run over and jackets get split.
It is a few cents of steel doing a real job, and a new one restores the positive snap the hook had when the machine was new.
