This handle release spring (Part #77136) is a replacement for Sanitaire and Eureka SC9150 and SC9180 series uprights. The spring returns the handle-release pedal to its locked position after you press it, keeping the handle secure between adjustments.
When the spring weakens, stretches, or breaks, the pedal no longer springs back and the handle can drop or fail to lock. Installing a fresh spring restores firm pedal return so the handle holds its upright and reclined positions reliably.
