This is the center-belt brush roll and gear box assembly for the Rainbow E2 PN-12 power nozzle, part R14289C. The gear box is built onto the roller itself, so the geared drive and the brush unit replace together as one part rather than as separate pieces.
It fits the E2-PN power nozzle in its center-belt configuration. Rainbow built the E2 nozzle with the drive belt running either through the center or along the side of the housing, and this unit is sized and geared for the center-belt layout only.
Replace it when the bristles have flattened enough that the nozzle rolls over debris instead of lifting it, when the gear box no longer turns the roller smoothly by hand, or when hair wound around the shaft has worked its way into the gearing. Open the nozzle and check whether the belt runs through the middle of the brush chamber or along one side before ordering, since the center and side versions are not interchangeable.
Because the gear box comes attached, there is no separate gear service on this part; a stiff or grinding gear box is a reason to replace the whole roller rather than trying to lubricate or adjust it in place.
