Part 430001178 threads into place to join the bag to the machine on Oreck's XL2200 and XL2250 uprights, and it is the screw-type fitting that this part number covers rather than any other connector style Oreck used.
This is the joint the bag is fastened at, so a crack or a stripped thread here shows up as a leak at the connector rather than as a fault anywhere else on the machine. Suction at the floor falls off while nothing else has obviously changed, and that is what makes the connector easy to pass over when looking for the cause.
