Product details
Kirby's belt lifter uses a hook to catch the drive belt and carry it clear of the brush roll. Part 144273 is the metal version of that hook, an original Kirby item for the Classic I CR and Classic Omega 1CB, the Dual Sanitronic 50 and 80, and the Sanitronic VII.
The hook does the actual gripping, so it is what bends. A hook that has splayed open or snapped lets the belt slip off mid-lift, and belt changes turn into a fight: the lever moves but the belt does not, or it drops back onto the roller before you can seat it. On machines of this age the failure is nearly always metal fatigue at the bend.
Being steel rather than plastic, this one stands up to repeated lifts. Check the belt while the lifter is apart, since a belt that has been fought with is usually stretched.
