Product details
Part 38333 is a foam motor filter built for Eureka's Mighty Mite canister line, sold under the Sanitaire name on the same platform. It matches the 3631A and 3673A models, the SC3683D, and the SL3681A, a range that spans the Mighty Mite I and II generations as well as the related 3600-series canisters.
Positioned just ahead of the fan, this foam pad exists to stop debris that slips by a bag which has torn or is not seated right, catching it before the motor itself is exposed. Foam breaks down slowly, shifting from its original pale shade toward grey and then stiff. A machine working against a clogged motor filter loses power everywhere it is used, runs noticeably warmer, and can carry a faint burnt-dust odor after a few minutes of use, even with a brand new bag installed and taking the blame.
Look at the foam whenever a bag gets changed rather than waiting for a symptom to show up, since it sits tucked out of sight and gets forgotten easily. Once it will not rinse back to close to its original color, swap it rather than keep running a pad that has already lost its shape and structure.
Because it sits out of the main airflow path most owners think to check, a service pass that only replaces the bag can leave this pad unchecked for months at a stretch. Removing the bag fully, rather than feeding a new one through the opening, is the only reliable way to see the foam directly and judge its condition rather than guess from suction alone.
