Clipped to the back of the machine and pulled off whenever a shelf, a vent or a stair edge needs attention, the on-board wand takes more knocks than almost any other accessory. Part 5045GS is the gray black tube, matched to the finish of the AUTOMATIC X and 370 uprights it belongs to, and it drops straight into the original holder with nothing to adapt.

Its job is simple enough: it bridges the hose handle and whichever tool is on the end, adding the reach needed for stair treads, upholstery, door frames and the tops of bookshelves. Damage nearly always starts at the ends. A cracked collar stops the tube seating properly against the hose, and from that point air leaks at the joint rather than pulling dirt through the tool at the far end. A dented tube costs airflow the same way and cannot be straightened out.

If suction at the crevice tool has fallen away while the floor head still cleans normally, the wand and its seals are the first place to look rather than the filters.
