The sole plate is the metal panel on the underside of an Oreck LW1500 upright, the face that meets the carpet and holds the nozzle at its working height. Oreck sells it as part 440007674.
Plates bend, and once bent they cannot be trusted. A plate that has been dropped, driven over a threshold strip, or forced during a belt change no longer sits flat, so the nozzle gap is uneven from one side of the machine to the other and it cleans one strip well and the rest of the pass poorly. Worn or torn edges also catch on carpet and can pull at loops.
This plate is listed for the Oreck LW1500 and the UK30500. It goes back on the original fixings, which puts this repair well within reach at home rather than needing a trip to a service shop.
