This is the extractor nozzle for the Hoover FH68000 XL, part number 440015238, the moulded channel at the front of the machine that lays solution onto the carpet and draws it straight back out.
It works because it is sealed. Crack the housing and the machine can no longer generate the pressure difference across the carpet that pulls water back up, so each pass leaves more moisture than it lifts. Carpet stays wet for hours instead of an hour, streaks appear where the split is, and the recovery tank fills far more slowly than it should.
A sound nozzle puts the wet-and-recover cycle back into a single pass. It fits the Hoover FH68000, FH68010, FH68020, FH68040DI, FH68050 and FH68060. Flush the nozzle through with clean water after use so detergent residue does not build up inside it.
