Hoover part 48882 is the bag latch pin for the Model 65 handle, and it is listed for the Hoover 1030 as well.
It is a small pin doing one job: holding the bag latch on the handle so the outer bag stays hooked where it belongs. Pins wear at the shoulders, bend, or simply disappear during a bag change. What you notice afterwards is the bag sagging off to one side or unhooking itself while you push, which looks wrong and gets in the way of the handle.
Fitting a new pin takes a minute and puts the latch back to working properly. On machines of this age it is worth keeping a spare in the drawer, since the pin is the part that goes missing rather than the part that breaks.
