A bag ring gasket seals the joint between the dust bag collar and the machine body on Eureka and Sanitaire uprights. Part 36968 is the replacement, listed in our fitment data for the 2122A.
It is a small part with an outsized effect. Everything the nozzle picks up passes this joint on its way into the bag. When the gasket hardens, shrinks or splits, dusty air escapes around the collar instead of going through the bag media, so fine dust leaks out at the bag mount and filtration drops even though the bag itself is doing its job perfectly well.
The tell is a line of dust building up around the bag housing, or a smell of dirt whenever the machine runs. Seat the bag collar evenly against the new gasket so it compresses all the way round rather than sealing on one side only.
