Part 1710530000 is the wiring run that sends power from the handle down into the pump and motor on Dirt Devil's CE6000, CE6100, CE6105, CE7100C, CE7150 carpet cleaners.
A wire harness that flexes every time the handle tips back and forth is a common point of failure over years of use. A conductor inside the loom can fray at the bend point long before the insulation shows any sign of damage, so the machine may run fine standing upright, cut out the moment the handle moves, then start again once it is straightened. In some cases the same break keeps the machine from starting at all.
