Product details
The switch button for the Bissell PowerForce bagless 6583, part 2031264. It is the cap you actually press, sitting over the switch beneath it, and the same button is used on the 6582 and 6585, the 68C7 and the 12B1 and 1240 Helix machines.
Buttons crack around the pivot, stick in the housing, or simply fall out and vanish into the carpet. Once one is missing the switch itself is exposed, and pressing it directly with a fingertip or a screwdriver is how a working switch gets broken, which turns a very cheap repair into a moderately annoying one.
Fitting the new button takes minutes with the machine unplugged. If the switch underneath already feels vague or needs a hard shove, replace the switch at the same time rather than doing the job twice.
