Product details

Variable speed control on a Panasonic MC-V7388 upright runs through part AC86WBKV1000, the board wired between the switch and the drive motor that manages both the speed setting itself and the indicator lights tied to it.

These board failures are notorious for mimicking a bad motor, which sends plenty of owners chasing the wrong repair first. Watch for the machine locking onto one speed no matter where the dial is turned, power that drops out and then comes back on its own, a unit that will not start even though the cord and switch both check out fine at the terminals, or an indicator light that comes on in a way that does not match what the machine is actually doing. If a motor has already been swapped in and any of these symptoms persist, the board underneath is almost certainly the real cause.

Because the switch, the board, and the motor all sit in the same fault chain on this machine, it is common for a repair to work through all three in sequence chasing a symptom that was only ever the board to begin with. Testing switch continuity directly at the board's input terminals, rather than at the switch alone, is generally the fastest way to rule the board in or out first.

Fits the Panasonic MC-V7388. Power down the unit and give it a few minutes' rest before opening the housing near the board, and if there is any doubt about whether your machine matches, read the complete model number off the rating plate rather than going by the badge alone.

  • Fits: Panasonic MC-V7388
  • Symptom: stuck at one speed, power cutting in and out, no-start despite a good cord and switch
  • Before opening the housing: power down and let the machine sit
