This scallop face carpet tool (Part #32546) is a 14-inch wide floor tool with a 1-1/4 inch fitting, shaped with a scalloped front edge. That scalloped face rakes across carpet fibers as you pass, stirring up embedded dirt so more of it lifts into the airflow.
A straight-edge nozzle skims the surface and leaves ground-in dirt behind, especially on medium and thicker pile. The scalloped profile digs into the carpet for extra agitation, improving dirt extraction over a plain nozzle and getting more out of each pass across the room.
