The latch on a Royal RY5500 commercial upright is what holds the bag door shut against the constant vibration of a machine that runs for hours at a stretch. Part 370192 is the replacement for that latch.
When the tab wears round or the plastic fatigues, the door stops holding. It creeps open under vibration, which is enough to break the sealed path the bag system depends on: the machine gets noticeably louder at the door, suction at the floor falls off, and dust escapes at the seam instead of going into the bag. Operators usually notice the noise first and the dust second.
A new latch seats where the original did with no modification. It is worth checking the door lip and the mating catch for wear while you have it apart, since a chewed catch will wear a fresh latch just as fast as it wore the last one.
