Royal part 1672009000 is the adjustment spring for the 7710. It is the spring that loads the machine's adjustment mechanism, giving it the tension to hold a chosen setting and to return cleanly when it is moved.

Springs are consumables in the end. They fatigue, lose their free length, corrode where damp gets in, or simply snap. The symptom is a setting that will not stay put: the adjuster drifts or drops out of position during use, or feels slack and vague where it used to click firmly into place.

Note where each end of the old spring hooks before removing it, because the spring only loads the mechanism correctly when it is mounted the original way round. Beyond that it is a quick job with the machine unplugged.
