The Dyson DC17 pre-filter assembly is a replacement pre-motor filter for the DC17 upright in Animal, Multi-Floor, and Asthma and Allergy trims. It mounts ahead of the motor, catching the fine dust that clears the cyclone stage before that air passes through the motor.

A pre-filter loaded with dust restricts airflow, raising motor temperature and cutting suction, and can eventually trip the thermal shutoff. Fitting a clean assembly protects the motor and brings back strong, steady pickup.
