This replacement gasket for the Rexair D-3 pivot arm (Part #R5835) seals the joint at the pivot arm connection. It sits at the mating surface so air passes through the intended path rather than leaking where the pivot arm meets the nozzle.
A gasket hardens, flattens, or tears over time, and once the seal fails at the pivot arm, air leaks in and suction at the nozzle drops. A poor seal can also let the joint rattle. Fitting a fresh gasket restores a tight connection and full airflow through the pivot.
