This six-position height adjustment knob fits Sanitaire uprights, including the 1950A, and sets the brush roll to the correct height for the carpet underfoot. Turning the knob raises or lowers the nozzle across six detents so the brush meets low-pile and thick carpet alike at the right depth.
A cracked or stripped knob loses its detents, so the height setting drifts or will not hold, and the brush either skims the surface or digs in and bogs down. A sound knob restores firm, repeatable height selection that protects fibers and keeps cleaning contact even.
