The bottom plate assembly, part 523353001, is the moulded panel that closes off the underside of the cleaning head on the Dirt Devil UD70100 and UD30005 — the Breeze and Featherlite uprights. It sets the gap between the brush roll and the carpet and keeps airflow channelled across the nozzle opening.
Plates crack around the screw bosses or warp after enough contact with door thresholds. Once that happens the head no longer sits flat, air is drawn in through the gap instead of through the nozzle, and the machine seems to have lost suction even though the motor is fine. Debris also starts escaping past the front lip.
Fitting a flat plate reseals the head. It is worth checking the belt and brush roll while the plate is off, since both are exposed at that point.
