Underneath the release knob at the left end of an AUTOMATIC X8 brush roller sits a sprung ring, and that ring is what actually clamps the roller down into its bearing seat. Part 52248ER supplies it complete with its spring, finished in light gray.
The wear here is gradual rather than dramatic. The spring loses tension, the face of the ring polishes and then flattens, and the roller ends up with a fraction of movement it never had when new. That small amount of play shows up as a belt drifting toward one edge of the pulley, a rhythmic tick across hard floor, or bright scoring inside the housing where the roller has begun to touch. SEBO builds the same arrangement into the opposite end using ring 52033ER, catalogued at position 129 of the AUTOMATIC X7 / X8 diagram, and a machine that has run long enough to wear one side is generally ready for the other. The knob that sits over this ring on the left-hand side is 52224DB.
Fitment is the SEBO AUTOMATIC X8. Take note of which way the spring loads before dismantling — it wants to sit under preload against the ring, not free inside the recess.

A quick test before ordering: with the roller out, hold the ring and try to rock it in its recess. Anything beyond a trace of movement, or a spring that no longer pushes back firmly, means the clamping force has gone even where nothing looks broken.
