Returns & Exchanges

Clearing wrapped hair from the roller starts with this button. Numbered 52034DB and finished in dark blue to match the AUTOMATIC X8, it is the right-side release that frees the brush roller from its housing and then holds it captive once the roller goes back in.

Buttons crack around the shaft or lose their crisp action, usually after being forced while the roller was jammed with hair or carpet thread. At that stage the roller either will not come out for cleaning or will not seat properly when it does, and neither is worth tolerating on a machine built around quick roller access. The replacement is a single inexpensive part, changed by hand, and it puts the positive click back into the mechanism so you can tell by feel that the roller is home.

If both ends of the roller feel vague rather than just the one, change the ring and spring behind the knob as well, because a worn detent will chew through a new button quickly. Unplug the machine and lay it on its back before starting, and keep the old part beside you until the new one is in so the orientation is obvious. The knob is handed, so a left-hand release will not stand in for it, and the ring and spring behind the knob are a separate item again. Fit the button with the roller out of the way, then refit the roller and check that it locks with a clean click at both ends before the machine goes back on the floor.
