Hair wound hard around a brush roller will not pull off by hand, and picking at it with scissors is how bristle strips end up cut. The black SEBO tool sold as 8366WS runs along the roller and parts the wrap so the whole tangle lifts away in one piece.
It suits the rollers fitted to the SEBO AUTOMATIC X1, X2, X4, X4 Boost, X5, X7 Premium, X7 Pet and X8; the ESSENTIAL G1, G2, G4 and G5; the FELIX Premium, FELIX 2 Premium and DART; the AIRBELT D4 Premium, AIRBELT E3 Premium and AIRBELT K3 Premium; the C3.1; and ET-1 and ET-2 power heads with or without a switch. Between them those machines take several different rollers — 5010AM and 5010GE at 12 in., 2838AM and 2838GE at 15 in., the two-piece sets 5290AM and 5290GE — and the tool is indifferent to which one is in the head.
The case for using it is mechanical. A bound roller turns slowly, drags on the belt, warms the head and stops gripping the pile at all, and each of those costs cleaning performance well before anything fails outright. Hair that is left long enough also migrates to the roller ends and works into the bearing seats, which turns a five-minute job into a parts order. Work with the machine switched off and unplugged, drawing the tool along the length of the roller rather than across the bristle rows, and make it part of the routine at every bag change rather than a rescue operation once the roller has stopped.
