The brush roll does the actual work on carpet, and part 611006107 replaces it on the Kenmore 31510 and 31510.1 robot vacuum. It spins under the chassis, flicking debris out of the pile and into the inlet.
Bristles do not last forever. They wear short, splay outwards, and take a set from months of hair wound tight against the roller. Once they no longer stand up straight and reach into the carpet, the robot runs its pattern normally but pulls noticeably less off rugs than it does off tile - a fair sign that the roller, not the filter, is what needs changing.
Drop the new roller into its bearings, turn it by hand to check it spins free, latch the cover down and run a short pass to confirm it.
