The power switch assembly for Bissell PowerForce uprights, part 2031243, taken from the 6590. It is also listed for the 1240 and 12B1, the 6579 series, 6582, 6583, 6584, 6585, 6596 and the 68C7.
Switches wear internally where the contacts arc, and they almost never fail cleanly. What owners describe is a vacuum that needs the switch pressed twice, or one that runs until the machine is nudged and then stops, or one that only works with the rocker held part-way. It is easy to blame the cord for all three, so check the switch before ordering a cord.
The assembly is a direct replacement for the original. Unplug the machine first and note where each wire lands before you take any of them off, because the terminals are not interchangeable.
