Dirty water coming back off the carpet passes through this screen before it reaches the recovery tank on a Bissell Big Green. Part 2037429 is the receiver screen, and it is confirmed for the 86T3 and 40M1 Big Green Clean Machines, the 10N2 commercial extractor, the BG10, the 3288, and the Sanitaire SC6100A upright carpet extractor.
Its whole job is catching the grit, hair and carpet fiber that would otherwise settle in the tank and work through to the pump side of the machine. It blinds over with felted hair, and a blinded screen throttles recovery: the machine sounds entirely normal, the tank fills slowly, and the carpet comes up wetter with every pass.
A cracked or distorted screen is worth replacing rather than cleaning, because debris getting round the edge is exactly what it was fitted to stop.
