Made for older Royal uprights, this replacement belt also fits the GE, Cadillac, and Westinghouse uprights of the same design. It drives the brush roll from the motor shaft.
When the belt stretches or breaks, the brush roll slows or stops and carpet cleaning suffers, often signaled by a burning rubber smell. A fresh belt at correct tension returns the brush roll to full speed, so these older uprights keep cleaning as they were designed to.
