This short beater bar for the VG-1 upright vacuum and power nozzle is one half of the two-piece brush roll arrangement used in these machines. It works alongside the long bar, and together the pair delivers carpet agitation across the full width of the brush roll assembly.
Beater bars are wear items. Bristles shorten with every pass over carpet, and once they no longer reach into the pile, embedded dirt stays put no matter how strong the suction is. If your VG-1 is leaving grit behind in the carpet, worn bars are the most common cause.
When servicing the brush roll, it is worth inspecting both the short and long bars at the same time, since they wear together. Replacing them as a set restores even agitation and consistent deep cleaning on carpet.
