This long beater bar is a replacement brush component for the VG-1 upright vacuum and power nozzle. Running the length of the brush roll, it is the part that physically works the carpet, sweeping fibers back and forth so embedded grit is loosened and carried into the airstream.

Agitation is the half of carpet cleaning that suction cannot do on its own. Once bristles wear short, the bar spins without actually touching the pile, and cleaning performance drops even though the vacuum sounds perfectly normal. That quiet decline is why beater bars deserve a periodic inspection.
